We Live in a Beautiful World

by Sylvia on February 14, 2012

Speaking of gratitude, here’s an amazing letter from our rockstar Nikki Fedele and her “stage manager” Don Chase. Their family exemplifies the power of community and support. Read on and enjoy…Sylvia

On most weekend mornings you can find Nikki and I on a walk with our dog, Maya, at the Heard Pond conservation area here in Wayland. We enjoy the curve of the Sudbury River as it winds around the border of the linked fields. There is always something new to see and enjoy. The sparkle of the winter sun on the water as three large white swans took flight was memorable this morning. Or it could be the brilliant green of new grass on a spring morning, or the drifting red/orange clouds at sunset. The scene is ever changing but familiar.

On December 19th we experienced a very dark cloud when Eric was hospitalized with AML  leukemia. Our lives have been in turmoil since then, but Eric has gotten through the first intensive chemotherapy treatment. This week we got the great news that his blood counts are bouncing back. Eric has many more difficult steps along the path of his treatment. We are continuing to hope for a cure.

In the midst of our world being turned upside down, we have all been incredibly touched by everyone’s generosity towards our family. This outpouring of support has taken many, many forms. Eric’s many friends from Wayland and the University of Vermont have consistently lifted his spirits and made him laugh, which has warmed our hearts. Friends, family, neighbors, and colleagues have repeatedly reached out for conversation with Nikki and I. They have had the courage to share with us this journey with cancer. The outpouring of dinners, cookies, bottles of wine, and flowers have fed our bellies and our souls. But most important has been the fact that so many people have kept Eric in their thoughts and prayers. The warmth of this caring and concern will help carry us through. We want to thank the COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE that has brought sunlight and warmth to this challenging time for our family. You have individually and, as a community, made a tremendous difference in our lives.

We truly do live in a beautiful world filled with nature and amazing generosity of the human spirit. With all of our gratitude, we thank you!

Don & Nikki

What a beautiful note that so eloquently captures the fabric of life and beauty. I am one of so many who are beaming prayers and healing energy to Eric, Nikki and Don. The connections that are forged in Sylvia’s PTM studio are so extraordinary—Sylvia strengthens our bodies, spirits and souls so that we can come together so easily and vibrantly to support each other and the greater community. What an honor and blessing it is for me to be a part of it all. With immense gratitude, Wenda
